About ETC Programs

Managing Student Behavior in the Postsecondary Classroom
Instructors analyze current behaviors confronted in and out of the classroom and learn new strategies to manage unprofessional behavior.  Instructors are made aware that standard professional conduct is not immediately grasped by college students, and the end result of this session is a list of definable behaviors and why they are expected in the professional environment.

Motivating Adult Learners
Instructors identify effective communication skills needed to motivate an audience and analyze why their students have chosen to study in their industry. We also examine the perceived barriers to student motivation to excel and alternative strategies to motivate students once they return to the classroom. The end result is an explanation, in writing, how they will apply one or two strategies once they return to the classroom.

Learning Styles & Interactive Teaching Techniques
Instructors identify the different learning modalities and complete a Multiple Intelligences Survey for Adults.  After reviewing film clips of effective and ineffective teaching strategies, the instructors take part in collaborative learning techniques that they can apply in their classrooms no matter what their disciplines.

Development of Critical Thinking Skills
Instructors examine what they currently do in the classroom to encourage critical thinking skills in the classroom.  After observing via video and hands on examples of critical thinking exercises, they create their own exercises they can use to ensure higher level critical thinking amongst their students.

Assessment & Evaluation Methods
Instructors examine the differences between assessment and formal evaluation.  In addition to developing strategies to use assessment as a strategy to teach, the instructors create new evaluation strategies to effectively measure student learning outcomes.

Delivery & Maintenance of Online Classes
This workshop is especially designed for instructors that need to increase student motivation and interaction in online courses.  An emphasis is placed on best practices in Online Course Instructional strategies.

Development of Online Classes
This workshop is specifically designed for instructors that have not yet but plan to design an online course.  An emphasis is placed on best practices in the Design of Online Courses.

Development of Lesson Plans & Syllabi for Postsecondary Educators
Instructors are exposed to many different ways in which they can create lesson plans.  Emphasis is placed on organization and time management of lectures/lessons.  New instructors, especially, benefit from this workshop as they learn to structure the main objectives of each class meeting, leaving room for lecture, practice, and assessment.

Creating & Assessing Learning Outcomes
After examining example learning outcomes already implemented at other institutions, instructors workshop with the goals of identifying relevant learning objectives within their disciplines.  As a result, the instructors generate easily measurable and time-saving learning objectives.
